A Bit About Us & Our Founders
Education on the Corner was founded in 2023 by it's CEO, Dr. Rhonda Cotton at the helm. Dr. Cotton brings a wealth of experience spanning higher education, business, pre-college education, and technology to the organization. This diverse background is instrumental in our mission. Troy Cotton Sr. currently serves as the Community Relations Director.
Our mission is driven by the realization that the Inner City faces significant challenges in STEM education and computer literacy, with many families lacking access to computers. This mission is deeply personal to Dr. Cotton, who, as a child growing up in the Inner City, experienced the impact of limited access to educational resources firsthand. Education on the Corner is uniquely positioned to address these disparities by offering individualized or small-group tutoring, academic expertise across various subjects and courses, and support services aimed at closing educational gaps and building a stronger community.
Our primary target demographic is the community and Inner City, encompassing English Language Learners, at-risk learners, and individuals seeking assistance to participate in our programs. Our educational services are designed to enhance learning abilities and self-esteem, with the goal of helping individuals achieve their academic aspirations and sharpen their employability skills.
We firmly believe that Education on the Corner's experience, training, and community connections position us as leaders in providing valuable free educational services. We are committed to doing the legwork required to deliver these services effectively.
Our Partners
Our partners play a vital role in our efforts to provide adult education resources. Unity Gospel House of Prayer in Milwaukee Wisconsin has served the community for over 50 years, and we are proud to work alongside them. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Educational Opportunity Center empowers adults seeking to return to school, and we are honored to have them as a partner.
Our Committment
Our commitment to inclusivity means our curricula, tutoring, and mentoring programs are tailored to accommodate individuals with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. We recognize that needs may vary due to ethnic backgrounds, limited English proficiency, or disabilities. To address these differences, we implement learning activities and intervention strategies that align with SMART Goals, and all strategies undergo regular review for effectiveness, with individual progress continually assessed to guide necessary revisions.
